happy birthday ghana

today, 6 march 2006, Ghana turns 49. The celebrations are rampant and primarliy include a lot of singing and chanting and running around, a nice "the history of Ghana" display, a huge colorful and outstandingly orderly parade of "school children and security personels" and a lot of flag waving. Ghana was the first African nation to gain independance from its colonizers, and though they have had their temultuous years and decades since, all things considered, they really have a lot to be proud of.

the cool thing about independance day here is that the freedom fighters who worked for, fought for, earned and built the nation arent some historical figments in powdered wigs, they are the elders sitting next to you at the stadium, watching the parade with a quiet little smile.
